Laxmi : I want to feed my children

Updated: Mar 31, 2023

Meet Laxmi, a strong and determined mother of four who has faced unimaginable challenges in her life. A few years ago, her husband passed away due to a heart attack, leaving Laxmi to take care of their four children on her own. With no source of income or savings, she soon became homeless.

Despite her struggles, Laxmi didn't give up. Someone kindly helped her build a small shack along the hillside, but it's not a permanent solution, and she fears being uprooted by the municipality officials at any moment. Unfortunately, Laxmi's situation is not unique. Many poor people in her situation don't have enough money to rent or build a home and live in makeshift places, constantly fearing eviction.

Laxmi works as a maid for a few hours each day and tries to find additional labour jobs on top of that. However, her income is only about 50 Euros per month, which is not enough to provide for her family's basic needs. Thankfully, her children can attend government school for free, but her oldest daughter, who is 14 years old, has to work alongside her mother to support the family.

When Widow's Hope visited Laxmi, we were deeply moved by her pitiful situation. She and her children hadn't eaten anything that day. So, we gave her some money to buy food for herself and the kids. A few days later, we delivered the first supply of groceries for her business so that she could start selling right from her home and earn some additional income, just like we did with Maheshwari.

We understand that we cannot build a solid shop for Laxmi, but we plan to give her some shelves, a display stand, a storage box, and a table so that she can have a more practical and attractive setup for her customers. If you would like to contribute to her shop or become a partner in helping more widows like Laxmi, please visit www.widowshope.com/support-us or email us at contact@widowshope.com.

Let's come together to support Laxmi and empower her to create a better life for herself and her children. Every little bit helps, and your kindness can make a world of difference to someone in need. Thank you for your support!
