Babita's dream of a Beauty Salon

Babita with her daughters

Today, I want to share with you the story about Babita. Babita is from a remote village, Thatyur, in the Himalayas surrounded by the breathtaking views of the peaks. Married at an early age she bore 2 daughters to her husband Ramesh. Soon she found out that her husband was unable to work due to severe depression. He would neither seek work nor try. He then began to drink regularly.

One day, Babita's husband suddenly disappeared, leaving her behind with their two daughters to take care of, without any source of income. Babita was devastated by her husband's abandonment and faced a great challenge before her.

Determined to provide for her children she moved to a bigger hill town called Mussoorie. Babita decided to take up work as a maid, going from house to house to clean, wash, and cook for families in her village. Soon, she was able to put both her daughter in school and they began doing well in their studies.

Despite the gruelling work, Babita never lost her positive outlook and always had a warm smile for those she served. She remained strong for her daughters. She made sure they had food to eat, clothes to wear, and a roof over their heads. Though Babita works at 4 houses daily the money she earns is barely enough to pay the rent, food and her daughters’ school fees.

Babita dreams of a better life for her daughters

When I heard about her I went to visit her. When I saw the struggles she faced, I was moved by her determination to provide for her daughters and build their futures. During our conversation, Babita expressed her desire to start her own business. She told me she had always been passionate about beauty and grooming and dreamed of opening a beauty parlour. It was so inspiring to see her courage and fortitude that I felt we had to help her fulfill her desire.

So I sat down to write what it would cost to start a basic salon right from her house. The bare minimum set-up would cost around 1000 EUR. This would include, a dressing mirror installed with soft lights, and beauty salon chair, a few extra chairs, hair steamers, face steamers, hair straighteners, towels, a make-up kit, shampoos, hair colour, creams, wax and other beauty products etc.

She suggested that she could start her business right from her home. Where she already provides them basic services like eyebrow plucking, threading and waxing unwanted body hair to a few women from the neighbourhood. I listened to Babita's story and promised to help her make her dream a reality. We will connect her with the resources and training she needs to start her own beauty parlour. With your financial help and her own hard work, she will soon be able to open her own beauty salon.

Babita's story is a reminder that no matter how difficult life may seem, there is always a way to rise above the challenges and achieve your dreams. With hard work and determination, anyone can turn their life around and make a better future for themselves and their loved ones. I am sure her story will give hope to many more women to be strong and never give up.
